Medical Information on Diagnosis and Treatment for Snoring and Sleep Apnea

Sleep Surgery brings about the complete disappearance of snoring in most snorers. Almost all snorers enjoy a significant reduction in both the frequency and severity of the snoring at the very least. Daytime sleepiness is usually eliminated in both partners. Mood is often improved dramatically, medications avoided or stopped, and sexual desire and activity revitalized. Health and longevity are greatly enhanced. Apnea, with its dangerous and distressing consequences, can be eliminated or reduced. In general, more energy and a new sense of well-being brings:

  • Increased productivity and effectiveness at work
  • More enjoyment of leisure activities
  • Ability to exercise and gain the right body shape

Types of Sleep Surgery

Currently most surgery for snoring or sleep apnea is done on the palate (The palate is the soft part of the back of the throat, with the uvula attached to its lower edge, hanging between the tonsils. It is this part of your anatomy that makes most of the noise when snoring). However, nasal and or sinus surgery is sometimes necessary, and procedures on the back of the tongue, jaws and neck, are occasionally required.

PIP = Pillar Implant Proceedure

RPM = Radiofrequency Palatal Myoplasty (Also known as Somnoplasty).

LAUP = Laser Assisted Uvulopalatoplasty.

UPPP = Uvulopharyngopalatoplasty.
