Tongue Base Surgery
1) Genioglossal Advancement (GGA)
This surgery helps pull the tongue forward in patients who have obstruction behind the tongue as well as at the palatal level. It is usually done at the same time as UPPP under general anaesthetic.
2) Tongue Base Radiofrequency (TB Rf)
This is also done for tongue-base obstructors, and is also performed as an adjunctive proceedure, but in the office serially on a monthly basis over as many as 10 or 12 months. The excess tissue at the tongue base is gradually reduced by the radiofrequency energy.
